In Victoria, a penalty unit is valued at $209.10 for the financial year starting 1 July 2026. Non-compliance with rental minimum standards and related obligations carries the following penalties under the Residential Tenancies Act 1997

Every residential rental property in Victoria must meet minimum standards for safety, security, privacy and amenity. These standards apply to rental agreements entered into on or after 29 March 2021. The property must meet them when it is advertised or offered for rent, and before the renter moves in.
At Square, compliance is not an afterthought. Every property we manage is assessed against these standards before it is leased. Our rental providers are protected, and our renters can be confident their home is safe.
Square has a Zero Tolerance policy for any rental provider not willing to Or comply with minimum standard laws. Simply put, if you do not comply, we will terminate your management agreement. It's very simple.

150 penalty units (~$31,365)
The Parliament of Victoria created legislation that Consumer Affairs Victoria, landlords & renters MUST follow.
There is documented evidence where legislation states clear expectation of standards & Consumer Affairs Victoria change the wording on their website. We do not agree with this.
